Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our 2022 Glen Forest Community Association Annual Meeting on Saturday, March 19.

At the meeting we:

  • Enjoyed a presentation from Fairfax Master Gardeners on native plants and creating natural spaces in our yards.

  • Held elections for the Glen Forest board of directors. We have 2 vacant seats right now and seeking new board members. Please contact us at glenforestcommunity@gmail.com if you have any interest in serving on the board or would like more information.

  • Shared updates about neighborhood activities:

    • Hogge Park: Corner Magnolia/Glen Carlyn. Construction began in March 2022; estimated completion mid-2023.

    • Neighborhood Watch: Re-energizing this initiative; inviting new watchers (eg. walkers/joggers, dog walkers).

    • Glen Forest Community Pool: Opens Memorial Day Weekend.; currently have a waitlist; priority for neighborhood residents.

    • Pool Parties & Camping in Glen Forest Park: Now scheduling for Spring/Summer 2022.

    • Food Truck Fun: Bringing food trucks to Hoagge Park; Fridays this summer; dates TBD.

    • Friends of GFC Pool: Non-profit; raising funds to beautify Glen Forest Park.

    • Email Collection Effort: Trying to collect emails from neighbors; door to door effort this spring; volunteers needed.

  • Discussed what we would like to see in the neighborhood. Some thoughts included:

    • Welcome wagon

    • Email listserve for neighbors to contact each other

    • Happy hour in the park

    • Making more use of the park for community activities (eg. neighbor bonfire in the fall)

    • Interest in a group buy of trees among interested neighbors.

And last but certainly not least:

  • Announced a Call for Volunteers! We are a 12 person board of directors and need volunteers to bring activities to the community. There are so many ways to get involved - here are just a few that we shared at the board meeting:

    • Board of Directors

    • GFC Pool Committee

    • Tennis court fence removal (~10 ppl needed; April date TBD)

    • GFCA Communications (eg. social media, emails, website updates)

    • Neighborhood watch

    • Welcome wagon

    • Email collection
